CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe Shimmery Volumizing Mascara in Black Platinum ($8.49 give or take )The Claim: Get a blast of volumized lashes with a hint of luxurious shimmer with the biggest brush ever from CoverGirl! LashBlast's volume-boosting formula and big brush give you big, bold luxurious lashes.
The Brush: CoverGirl's LastBlast is known for its jumbo-sized, not so small-eyed-people-friendly brush which contains a plethora of rubbery bristles. It's great for fanning out the lashes and creating nice, even definition, but it's also a clumsy-person hazard because it is so large. I do quite like the brush in that it stretches out every lash, creating nice length and separation, but on smaller Asian eyes it can also create quite the mess. And yes Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper Mascara does have a very similar brush, but trust me these mascaras are actually quite different!

The Formula: LashBlast Luxe is the pretty much the original LashBlast formula (which contains 'spherical wax' particles which act as spacers to help create a beauty fan of lashes) with the addition of shimmer. So I was pretty sad to find that while this does come in a pretty pink tube (the original comes in an orange tube), the shimmer was essentially non-existent. Instead, Black Platinum just looks to be a less black version of the regular LashBlast, and I really don't see any shimmer or sparkle at all.
LashBlast does provide nice length, decent curl and volume, and very pretty definition without smudging or flaking, but nothing about it wows me as it's just not particularly spectacular in any given department. While people may say that Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper (review HERE) is just a LashBlast wannabe, to me it distinguishes itself with its phenomenal volume and buildability.

The Verdict: CoverGirl's LashBlast Luxe is an all-around solid mascara, but if you're expecting some shimmer or sparkle, you'll be disappointed. I say stick with the original if you like a more dramatic look since Black Platinum is definitely less black than I would've liked, but I do recommend LashBlast if you're looking for an affordable mascara that will give you a little bit of everything~length, volume, curl, and definition. I wasn't amazed, but I most definitely wasn't disappointed either.
RATING: 3.5/5

While I certainly wasn't looking to have disco ball lashes, it would be nice if the shimmer was a little more visible. I think I only see a tiny little hint of it in the close up pic of your EOTD.
Deb I think it was you who told me about an Armani shimmer mascara, and since then I've been on the hunt for an affordable shimmery mascara. I'm not satisfied with the effect that Luxe gives, so I'm plan to keep on looking!
I bought this mascara for the shimmer and I must say, I was disappointed.. but then I looked closely at my lashes in an angle and I could see the glitter! It's just that you'll be the only one to notice it because I don't think a lot of people would come up that close to your face to notice it ^_^
TLNHTRN LOL @ the image of someone walking up to you and peering at your face from inches away! But yes that's seriously the only way you'd notice any shimmer/glimmer at all from this mascara, which is disappointing!
I've got that one in Black Cabernet. I don't really care for the shimmery color, but I love that mascara as it gives my lashes great volume and curl (they are usually hard to curl)! It's my Mascara hg so far :) but everyone has different lashes, right?
Definitely Ragrunzel! This is definitely a good solid mascara that I do reach for quite a bit, I just wish that it would wow me in some way!
lol fantastic! not disappointed NOR amazed!
LOL kasumi it was just seriously run of the mill average for me. not bad but really nothing special.
I don't recall mentioning an Armani one. I was at Ulta and they have these new mascaras and eyeliners that are waterproof and come in a ton of colors. They are by a company called LA Splash. You can also get them from Cherry Culture, Target, or Amazon. They have a black glitter mascara called Abyss. I tried to find some reviews, but I couldn't. They're inexpensive though.
Deb hey seem worth a shot--I feel like I saw an ad for them somewhere.
Hmmm must've been someone else! It's hard to keep track sometimes, especially since I don't have the best memory :(
I tried this mascara...after about a week my lashes started to fall out. It didn't work for me. Anyone had this experience. I maybe allergic to something in it.
Anonymous that sounds terrible! I hope that they've started to grow back! I haven't had that experience but maybe somebody else has - I know that Diorshow used to always cause some sort of reaction with my eyes and make them water nonstop.
I think I'll stick to the original. I orignally didn't expect much glitter when it first released anyway.
Lisa I was hoping for a bit more sparkle, but other than that it's an all-around solid mascara.
It's good if you get the blue one. I love that one it's subtle and the shimmers show up.
Thanks for the suggestion Husha - I do love my blue mascara, really makes my whites pop!
