KONAD Stamping Nail Art System Review & My First Konadicure!

Guess what arrived in the mail yesterday? My very own Konad Stamping Nail Art System~~or at least part of one. After seeing this video I basically became Konad-obsessed and couldn't rest until I got some Konad of my very own, so I ordered up a stamper, scraper, image plate holder and one image plate to give the system a try. I skipped on the special polishes and all that because if I ended up hating the whole Konad thing I didn't want to be out too much money.

I ordered plate M60 primarily for the argyle pattern (top right) and gave it a try as soon as it arrived! You basically grab a gloopy polish (I used Sally Hansen Hard As Nail Xtreme Wear in white), swipe it over the pattern, scrape away the excess, pick up the image with the stamper, and transfer it to your nail.

As you can see, the plate starts to get a little scratched up from the scraper which is unfortunate (don't mind the fact that you can see my chandelier reflected in the plate--I was taking a few last minute photos for you all), but all in all the system works amazingly well! It did take me a few tries (okay a ton of tries) to find a polish that would work with the Konad stamp, but once I did I was good to go.

I'm sure if I used an actual Konad polish I'd get a lot more opacity in the design, and therefore a more vivid "stamp," but I'm pretty happy with my results!

My nails post-Konad stamping, and pre-cleaning up. As you can see, it gets all over the place!

Close-up of my nail. Since this isn't a Konad special polish, the colors isn't as opaque as it could be and therfore looks somewhat blue instead of the bright white it would be had I used Konad polish.

Stay tuned for more Konad manicures (or Konadicures) in the coming days, since I've already switched my nails to a different pattern!

So cute! You're making me start to become Konad obsessed too. Where did you order the parts from?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah Jen. I love you! You're always willing to at least TRY. I'm soooo glad you gave it a good review. Now I can go forth into Konad land without any qualms. :O)

That is amazing!!! I wanna try that! Ive been practicing on designing my own nails since going to the salon is taking so much of my money. Hopefully I'll be able to try this soon.

Jenn I ordered my stuff from this site:

http://senggigienterprises.com/store/index.html

And I have to say I'm very pleased with their CS! One of the plates I had ordered was out of stock, so they promptly e-mailed me stating that they could ship the first half of my package to begin with and then send me the plate when it came back in stock on 2/18, or I could pick a replacement plate, or they could just cancel that plate and send along the rest of my package. I thought it was a refreshing change of pace to have someone actually conscientiously looking after the customer!

GlossMenagerie if you're into nailpolishes/nail art at all I'd definitely check this out--it's so much fun to use and the learning curve isn't bad at all.

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 9:29 AM

T.R. I'm always up for trying new things! Some of them might be MASSIVE wastes of money but I do try to keep the sunk costs to a minimum and test things out LOL--and surprisingly enough this is one of those things that worked out great!

I was really skeptical since so many people seem to hate the system or find it difficult to use, but after overcoming the slight learning curve and experimenting with a few polishes before finally finding one that worked I've gotten the hang of this and it's seriously not all that hard. Definitely go forth and prosper in Konad-land! :D

Lyah I love getting manis/pedis but I also hate them because they're so expensive, and I would probably never get intricate designs on my nails at the salon since who knows how much they'd cost me, so I love that I can get such great results at home. I can't believe that this is something that I can do at home with such ease!

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 9:31 AM

Yumeko are there any other plates you'd recommend? I ordered M3 as well but now I'm kind of wishing I'd gotten something a little more interesting since it's rather blah. I just figured those were some good basic designs to have.

LOL Yumeko you can thank my inner miser who balked at purchasing polishes that can only be used for Konad!

you're really with the konad stamping! Dang! you're getting me tempted.I suck at doing my nails because my left hand has trouble functioning... but I recently got my nails done by a manicurist and I can't help how pretty it is! I should really pay more attention to my nails.

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:11 AM

Connie I'm the clumsiest, most non-coordinated person ever so if I can do it, anybody can! I was having a little trouble doing my right hand when I did the first nail, but I figured out if I leave my right hand flat on the table and just kind of grab the stamper in my fist so that I have a good grip on it, it's really easy!

I need to get that plate simply for this pattern! You did a great job! Hope there's more to come!

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 12:40 PM

Nessa there most definitely will be! I can't wait to purchase more plates!

Phyrra said on February 16, 2009 at 12:59 PM

Yay! Pretty!
I just ordered from this site that you linked, as they had free shipping ;)
I'd been meaning to order some konad for a while now! Scrangie has made me lust over them.

I ordered the stamp with the big and small end, and Konad plates 3 and 57 :)

this looks great! i'd love to get some konad stuff in the future, but i'm going to put it off for now, because i'm trying to cut back, lol. i can't wait to see more pictures!

mayaari said on February 16, 2009 at 1:32 PM

your nails are too cute! that pattern alone is tempting me to look into getting that for myself, even though I rarely paint my nails these days, haha

This is awesome! You did a great job.
You're getting me tempted to try this too.

that's so cute! i love the colors and the design.

I lurk on the nail board at Makeup Alley and I have picked up quite a few tips for Konading. First, most of the girls there don't like the metal scraper, because it scratches the plate. Some girls found a plastic scraper, but many of them said an old credit card works really well. Also, if you find that the stamp doesn't pick up the design from the plate, they suggest going over it with a nail file. This flattens it a little and roughs it up so it grips the design.

I had the chance of trying the Konad nail stamping thing at a shop & it was so cool!

Saves money too :)

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:57 PM

Yay Phyrra I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this once your order arrives, since I've been enjoying checking out all your nailpolish swatches lately! And yeah I love the free shipping!

I've been spending more and more time checking out Scrangie's photos as of late. *sigh* I need a new obsession like I need another toe!

I have Konad plate 3 coming in the mail as well!

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:58 PM

Nicole I know what you mean about cutting back! I've been trying to be good, and I have been other than HK but it's sooo hard! Thank goodness I still have my Sephora gift card to spend since it's like free money! :)

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:58 PM

Mayaari isn't the argyle/plaid pattern super cute? That was pretty much my sole reason for picking out this plate.

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:58 PM

Gio definitely give it a try if you're at all into doing your nails at home, it's so much fun!

*Jen* said on February 16, 2009 at 11:59 PM

Frosty it's so great that the plates come in a million different combinations with a ton of different patterns on them. There's definitely something for everybody!

*Jen* said on February 17, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Deb I didn't even know MUA had a nail board LOL! Then again, I don't do much on there besides checking out the reviews so I don't know all too much about it.

I'm definitely going to try using a credit card next time as it's really bothering me that my plate is already looking so scratched up.

Thanks for the tips--if I run into any complications I'll definitely be putting them to good use!

*Jen* said on February 17, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Julie I spent days looking for Konad near me with no luck, so had to resort to ordering online. I'm so jealous you can find this locally!

Jenn said on February 17, 2009 at 12:18 AM

Thanks for the link. I ordered the scrapper/stamp, M57 plate and a white polish. Can't wait for it all to arrive. =)

Ahleessa said on February 17, 2009 at 2:12 AM

I've been wanting this for a year now, but I keep holding myself back. I don't know why *sigh*.

*Jen* said on February 17, 2009 at 10:36 AM

Jenn sounds like you're off to a great start. Be sure to update us on your thoughts once everything arrives and you've had a chance to play around with it all!

*Jen* said on February 17, 2009 at 10:37 AM

Aly you NEED Konad, especially since you love nail art so much!! Seriously--you're one of the few people I'd say really have to own this, I think you'd get so much use from it. Although then you wouldn't get to express your artistic side as much through your nails.
