TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System ($225)I know this has taken longer than some of you had hoped (and thank you for waiting so patiently! I promise you'll be rewarded with more TEMPTU info than you'd ever want) but I'm finally ready to introduce you to my new favorite makeup gadget - the TEMPTU AIRbrush System!

TEPMTU's Airbrush Makeup System represented the next generation of makeup - for years pro makeup artists have used TEMPTU products to achieve flawless airbrushed results, and now TEMPTU has brought us a compact unit that we can (afford) to use in the comfort of our own homes!
What you get in your TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System:
- A trigger-activated AIRbrush which you can use to achieve sheer, medium or full coverage.
- An AIR Compressor that's compact enough to travel with and easy to set up.
Closer look at the trigger. You can pull this back to varying degrees so that you can achieve various degrees of coverage (controls the air flow).
There's also an on/off switch and an adjustable pressure dial (which you're looking at right here) to enable you to have even more cutomization and control. What I Love: I decided to test the TEMPTU Airbrush system one morning when I was running really late to work and didn't have time to read over length instructions, but the system literally took me all of 30 seconds to set up. You connect one end of the air hose to the AIRbrush, and the other to the AIR compressor, open a pod, pop it on and you're set! The photo below illustrates how you open one and attach one of TEMPTU's blush pods:

So what else do I love about the TEMPTU? Well the coverage! My SK-II Air Touch Foundation was pretty great, but it was a small handheld system and so could never really achieve the high pressure needed for a decent spray stream which would give full coverage. The TEMPTU allows me to achieve a full coverage finish that looks and feels natural (my skin can actually breathe!) with a gorgeous luminous finish and lasts and lasts. The steady stream of foundation blended with air across my face feels incredibly refreshing on a hot summer's day, and I even like to cut off the foundation flow and just use the air across my face post-application to help everything dry and set.
The foundation is actually released from a needle-like point at the tip of the foundation pod which gives me incredible control over where the foundation ends up - plus it's hygienic since you never have to touch your face! This is also a major pro for me because I don't know about the rest of you, but I hate applying an expensive face cream and then feeling like I'm smearing it all away by applying primer and foundation right over it.
Not So Much: Following my first two uses of the system I ended up with a little foundation in my hair, eyebrows, and all over my lashes (unlike the SK-II you will notice a little bit of this on hairs if you spray for long enough - i.e. to achieve full coverage), but with a few uses I learned to be more precise with my application, focusing on the areas that needed more coverage, and now I'm virtually mess-free! My other tiny gripe is that for me, full coverage takes a good minute or so of continuous spraying as I need a a lot of coverage, but that's only because I have a lot of redness to cover. Oh and the fact that the pods are rather hard to remove from the AIRbrush trigger - it takes a good deal of maneuvering and strength to get that thing off!
The Verdict: Honestly I really don't think that $225 is bad at all for an entire airbrushing system, particularly one of this quality - I mean who doesn't want to look like they have naturally gorgeous glowy skin? Have I mentioned that I love love love LOVE mine? It really is like having a pro airbrushing device at home and you'll love the amazing results you can achieve with this. Whether you intend to reserve it as a finishing spray to achieve a flawless finish for those special occasions, or plan to use it on a daily basis like I do (airbrushing your foundation each morning is such a refreshing way to start the day), this is a worthy investment to me. Plus TEMPTU offers not only foundation pods, but also blush pods, highlighter pods, and a myriad of touch-up products that coordinate fabulously with the system itself.
Nonetheless I know that this is a rather significant investment, so if there are any other aspects of the TEMPTU you'd like to see covered in this review just e-mail me/leave a comment and I'll incorporate it! Before & After photos using the system, plus more in depth reviews of the foundation, blush & highlighter pods and all of the touch-up accessories to come!

Woo Jen. Great review. I would invest in such a machine if I wear foundation everyday. But I'm rather lazy. Haha. Don't they only have limited shades. Is it hard for u to find the shade that matches u
How long does it actually take to achieve full coverage? I'm just wondering if it takes any longer than using regular liquid foundation.
I can't wait for the before/after pics, by the way!
yayyyy! i've been looking forward to this! the pros definitely outweigh the cons... the cons aren't too significant, i think. so it makes the $225 price seem worth it. i'm still not sure if i'll be investing in this, especially since i just spent money on buying the SK-II refills, but maybe later on. thank you again for posting this. very helpful!!! :)
HI Jen! Thanks for the informative post! Can you post some before/after shots like you did with the SK-II?
I'm soooo exicted to get mine now - It's status is "out for delivery" so I should get it this afternoon!
O I forgot to ask - what do you think of the highlighter pods? I watched the online video with the model applying it to herself and it looked too metallicy.
Also, how was the foundation itself? Did you experience any oxidation? O and what color did you get?
Ying I'm lazy too which is also why I love this - I hate smearing foundation around on my face, having to wipe off my fingers, apply powder, etc. etc. This is just so much simpler.
This comes in a range of 12 shades - I have swatches of them all for you coming soon! I had a pretty easy time finding a match, and the foundation itself is rather forgiving.
Lana for the coverage I like I'd say approximately a minute or continuous spraying. It's not super super quick but it's comparable to the time it takes to apply primer, foundation, powder, and clean everything up.
Those pictures should be up between today and tomorrow!
Nicole I know! I felt so guilty b/c I told you it would be soon and then I didn't get around to it.
The cons are really insignificant with this. My biggest worry wasn't that I wouldn't like the device, but that the foundation formula wouldn't be up to par - we have high standards! =D I do really love the formula though. I'm a happy girl!
Didi they're coming soon! I have them all ready, I just haven't gotten around to posting them yet =D. Oooh I can't wait to hear what you think of yours!
Didi the model applied WAAAAAAAAY too much I think to make it appear on video. If you use a light hand (they recommend you set the pressure gauge to "less" when using the blush/highlighter pods) you can get a gorgeous shimmer.
I'll be reviewing the foundation itself separately tomorrow but I'll just say that I was worried I would dislike the formula but it's really great! And I got shade #3.
Hi Jen - thanks again for all the info! I just got the temptu in my hands! MUWAHAHAHA!
I'm really impressed with the size of the "machine". It's a lot smaller and compact than I expected.
Now I really screwed myself though - I got the 2 free pods in #8 and they're too dark. I think maybe I should try the #6 but I'll have to wait for them to re-stock it online.
I will ask the bf to buy me this. Muahah. I don't need it but would not mind having it. Haha
Indeed it isn't that bad. I'm considering it, now...
How is the shade selection? I know you said there's 12, does it go super-pale-pink or no? Having said that, I've been loving my foundation lately.
I'd love to see a comparative photo of say, foundation applied by hand (like to the back of your hand?) versus it applied using the Temptu system. I'd ask for face but I know Jen won't give me that >:
Hi Jen - me AGAIN! I just read the instructions and I'm 12 years old. I could not stop laughing about "the poker". It was just too funny that the poker is actually the technical name.
Jen! I just saw the Temptu Airbrush system last week at Sephora site, I've been wanting to try it but its just not available locally! So I have to wait for something similar..thanks for the review!
i really really hate how i deffinatly want it now!
I recently bought the temptu and am personally not incredibly impressed. The airbrushing method definitely gives a better and more natural foundation application than standard methods, but the unit itself seems cheaply made for how expensive it is. Taking the pods in and out of the airbrush is really difficult. Because the the airbrush handle is made from pretty thin and honestly cheap feeling plastic, I really feel like with one wrong move I could easily break something, rendering my investment unusable. IDK... I am considering returning mine. I also don't like how loud it is.
Didi have you tried it yet?? Oh boooo for getting the wrong shades? And yeah I was so surprised by how light/compact it was too. I have such an easy time traveling with it between my two bathrooms.
LOL Ying yeah it's one of those things that you really don't need but you just want! =D
Ana I have swatches of all the shades, and I'm not sure if there's one that'll be pale enough for you but honestly I think the lightest shade could work as these are pretty forgiving.
LOL you'll get your before and after photos woman! Not Jen's whole head -- that's a no no, but part of Jen's head. Sigh - the photos are gross though =X.
LOL Didi I was exactly the same way! I felt so stupid labeling the photo above and writing "poker" b/c that seems like such an inappropriate term for it!
Askmewhats I hope that many other companies will not begin releasing similar systems!
Keely if you love playing with makeup as much as I do, it's such a fun investment and you'll definitely get endless amounts of fun use out of it!
Anonymous, I'd forgotten to mention how loud the device is. It startled me the first time I turned it on!
I happen to really enjoy mine, but of course makeup is subjective, and I'm with you on the trigger not feeling quite as sturdy as I would have liked.
The great thing about Sephora is that you can try things risk free since they have an amazing return policy. If this doesn't grow on you you should definitely take it back as it is an expensive item to keep should you not love it.
Hi. I have questions. 1) Are very fair to light colours available? I am very fair - I find a lot of make up too orange, too yellow or too white. 2) Will it cover uneven skin tone and blemishes? 3) Can touch ups be done or would you have to wash your face and re-apply to entire face?
I wear make up everyday and would love to try this - I would love any advice/info that you or others have to offer.
Lisa sorry this response took so long, but I'm here to help!
If you do a quick TEMPTU search, I have a post that includes swatches of every shade that TEMPTU makes, which you may find helpful.
Just how fair are you? If you're fair as in very very neutral and uber fair, you may have trouble finding a shade that light enough, but I did find that the color selection on these was actually really nice.
You do need to layer if you want to cover uneven skin tone and blemishes. The first layer will smooth your skin but imperfections will still be visible - it takes a good amount of spraying to cover everything, and while it doesn't look cakey at all, your foundation will disappear fast. I like to dab a little foundation/concealer on the imperfections first, then go over it with this to make my life easier.
Could you clarify what types of touch-ups you mean? If you're talking about spots that have faded throughout the day that you want to reapply to, you can just spray right over that area as the pen gives you a good amount of precision. It also doesn't settle into your pores which makes it great for touch-ups.
I really do think this is great for people like you and me who wear makeup every day, as it's so easy and of course I love never having to touch my face. The downside is that the foundation seems to go rather quickly and of course it's pricey. That having been said, if you don't need heavy heavy coverage (some days I do and so I'll stick a tiny amount of foundation underneath this on just those areas) this might be a great option for you, especially with Sephora's 20% F&F event currently going on!
I'm really thinking about getting this but there's one thing NO reviews have answered for me... i mild to moderate acne and i really want to know if the TEMPTU covers that nicely and if it makes my skin oily after 8 hours or more kind of thing. i would love it if you could answer this in your review =) thanks
Hi Anonymous!
I'm always happy to answer questions. I would say if you have acne that's only slightly red a good layer of this will cover most of it, but if it's major redness this definitely won't. Either way I'd suggest going over those spots prior to application with either a light concealer or a dab of foundation, and then finishing off with a mist of the TEMPTU for the best coverage.
On my oily skin this lasts for anywhere between 6-8 hours which is a very long time for me since my skin is crazy oily, so I'd say this is very long lasting, especially when set with the right powder.
Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you!
Thinking about adding this to my Christmas wish list. Do you still love it now that you've had it a few months? How quickly are you going through foundation pods? Any problems with clogging? Thanks so much for posting this.
Hey Anonymous,
I do still love mine, although I'm realizing I don't really love it quite so much on its own. But for a special day (or even just a normal day) I use this as a finishing spray over any foundation and my skin looks beautiful, glowing and flawless. I've had zero problems with clogging.
My only gripe? How quickly go through the foundation pods. I use my TEMPTU almost daily and I use a generous amount each time (I need a good amount of coverage) and a pod lasts me maybe 6 weeks I want to say, so it can get a little pricey. For me it's worth it though.
Hope that was helpful!
Thanks for the additional info. I'm curious about why you're using the Temptu over another foundation. Does the Temptu alone not give you sufficient coverage? I don't like the idea of having to go to the trouble and expense of applying regular foundation and THEN having to use the expensive Temptu product in addition. I was hoping this would replace all other foundations. I don't have the time or patience for a two step process every morning! I actually thought this system might save me time, in addition to looking flawless. Any thoughts? Thx.
Hey Anonymous,
One reason I layer foundations is simply the fact that I have a million LOL. Another is that I do like full coverage and the TEMPTU alone doesn't offer that as quickly as I'd like, plus I'd use up the foundation WAY too quickly if I went that route. As a finisher it creates a beautiful, flawless finish though.
If you have pretty decent skin this can definitely replace all your other foundations, but I have a LOT of underlying redness and so need a heavy duty foundation/concealer.
Is there any way you can make it out to a Sephora store to try this before buying? It is a hefty investment, although thankfully Sephora has a awesome return policy.
My 15 year old received the Temptu system for Xmas and it seems as though the pods are emptying too quickly and the pressure has decreased. Any suggestions?
Anonymous unfortunately no - I've noticed that the foundation goes way too quickly as well which is sad since it is so pricey. I love it though and I guess it's a price I'll have to pay for nearly flawless skin.
I do always wait for a discount event to stock upon my pods though!
Hi Jen! thanks so much for posting this, I'm very interested in an airbrush system and have been looking at dinair and luminess reviews. It's been very disappointing, but this seems promising. My skin is normal and I don't need a lot of coverage, the only thing is my ridiculous dark circles under and above my eyes! Would you say this would cover my problem or would I need some extra help from my concealer?
Anonymous unfortunately I'd say you'll probably need some concealer, although I can say that with the TEMPTU over the concealer your eyes will probably look pretty fantastic. I've taken to using my TEMPTU more as a finishing spray than anything else, although if I had pretty flawless skin I'd use just this.
